CONCORD, Calif. — California Department of Justice agents seized 11 firearms, including eight described by investigators as assault weapons, during an October 29 search of a residential care home in Concord. The agency announced the seizure and the arrest of an employee on November 5.
What investigators report
According to the attorney general’s office, investigators executing a search warrant found the firearms in an upstairs part of the facility, which the department said housed elderly residents and infant children. The DOJ has not publicly established that residents were injured in the incident.
State prosecutors said the filed counts include alleged illegal possession and importation of assault weapons, importation of a large-capacity magazine, and improper firearm storage where a child or a prohibited person could access a gun. The announcement lists nine felony possession counts, one felony importation-of-assault-weapon count, one felony large-capacity-magazine count and one misdemeanor storage count.
What remains unresolved
The DOJ announcement does not determine criminal guilt. All charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. California58 is not identifying the employee or the care home’s address because the official release did not provide those details.
The case illustrates why state officials pay particular attention to safety rules in residential care settings. The Department of Justice’s Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse investigates certain allegations involving vulnerable people in care facilities, alongside its other responsibilities.
